It is pretty important to bond with your bunny! Why you may ask? The bunny will be living with you and the bond between a bunny and their human is unbreakable, and its super special! Now you may be wondering how can I create a bond with my bunny? It can honestly be very simple for some rabbits, others not so much. With Reese, I honestly would just sit or lay with him and let him come up to me but, I wouldn't touch him during our bonding sessions. I wanted to show him that I am not gonna touch him if I am not welcome yet. If I touched him while he still didn't know me very well, it scared him. I didn't want him to be scared of me when I touched him, I wanted him to put his head down, etc, show that he likes being pet. I would usually pet him a few times towards the bonding sessions and if he liked being pet, I would end the session because I like ending things on a positive note. Treats are also a great way to bond with your bunny. I would hold out a piece of strawberry and let Reese eat it off my hand. He always expected a treat during bonding sessions. The big key to bonding with your bunny is time. You need to spend time with them in order to reach your goal of having a bond. It takes both bunny and human to create the bond. Another important thing that you should notice during your bonding sessions is body language. Is your rabbit happy? Is your rabbit scared? Is your rabbit mad? Its important to pay attention to these things because if you are around your rabbit and it is doing flops and zoomies, etc, that is one happy bunny and it is most likely enjoying having you around. With Reese, after 2 bonding sessions I started to pet him a lot because he was always happy when I was around. He would flop and do the odd binky. But honestly, the key to your rabbits heart is love and of course treats. You can even try to hand feed them a little bit of pellets or lettuce. This method of not touching the rabbit you are trying to bond with has worked with Reese and I am currently working on Timbit but he wants nothing to do with me so, I just sit in his pen and let him do what he wants, he usually will come sniff me a few times and then go do his own thing so, It might take a little longer with him but that is okay! Your bunny might be the same way but, don't give up!
